Teachers & Leaders

Teachers play a vital role in our communities, and they deserve to feel supported every step of the way. We partner with programs that enable teacher recruitment, retention, and recognition. By attracting new qualified teachers, strengthening professional development, and recognizing educators’ hard work, we’re cultivating the leaders who are shaping the next generation. We are proud to support educators through the incredible programs you can read about, below.

School Engagement

We offer microgrants to district, charter, and renaissance schools to assist teachers and leaders with back-to-school and teacher appreciation expenses. We also offer opportunities, such as our Holiday Link and Learn program, for leaders from all school types to convene, share updates, and be in a community with one another.

Camden Teacher Pipeline

Camden Teacher Pipeline

The Camden Teacher Pipeline (CTP) helps aspiring educators launch successful teaching careers in Camden. Through a partnership with Camden Education Fund and New Jersey colleges and universities, CTP recruits future teachers, places them in Camden schools for hands-on student teaching opportunities, and provides ongoing mentorship and support as they transition into full-time roles. With a focus on certification and career development, the program ensures teachers are well-prepared, confident, and equipped to make a lasting impact in the classroom. Last year, 100% of participants secured full-time teaching positions.

Over the summer, CBED hosts an 8-week Freedom School Literacy Academy.

This program helps current teachers expand their credentials, strengthen their instruction in high-demand subjects, and open new pathways for career growth while addressing critical subject shortages in Camden schools.

The RISE Award
Teachers & Leaders

The RISE Award

The RISE Award celebrates exceptional educators who are making a lasting impact in Camden classrooms. Selected by an external committee of education leaders, RISE honorees receive public recognition and a $5,000 prize in appreciation of their dedication, talent, and commitment to students.

We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis. George’s story is the story of too many Black Americans – Ahmaud Arbery, Breona Taylor, Trayvon Martin, and so many more, named and unnamed by the media— brutally and senselessly killed.

This loss of Black life and our persistent failure to bring those responsible to account expose the most grotesque, painful truth about our nation: the enduring legacy of white supremacy.

We will not heal until things change.

Camden Education Fund stands in solidarity with the Black community.

We remain deeply committed to bringing resources to support our public schools and the extraordinary youth-serving organizations in Camden, as we believe these are the institutions with the greatest potential to show our children, daily, that their lives and dreams matter.

The reality is that all organizations – ours included – have so much more work to do. We will hold ourselves accountable to building an organization that advances equity, promotes understanding, and dismantles racist structures.
