Camden Teacher Pipeline

What is CTP?

Founded in 2019 by the Camden Education Fund, the Camden Teacher Pipeline partners with New Jersey colleges and universities to:

  • Attract new teachers to Camden – specifically teachers of color.
  • Provide student teachers with robust, hands-on training.
  • Connect student’s teaching experience with schools that will be hiring for full-time positions at the end of their student teaching experience.

The goal is to create a sustainable pipeline of high-potential educators to Camden, New Jersey.

Program Overview

There are four components of the Camden Teacher Pipeline Program. CTP students receive support throughout their clinical placement year and through spring hiring.

Step 1: Coursework

Students take required coursework at their university’s School of Education

Step 2: Selection Process

Students are recruited to complete their student teaching in Camden. After site visits, they are matched to a K-12 public school: district, charter, or renaissance.

Step 3: Clinical Practice

During the year, students student-teach under the supervision of their Cooperating Teachers.

Step 4: Hiring Support

Students attend monthly, practice-based training sessions with cohort members.

Interested, successful students are supported in applying for full-time teaching positions at Camden partner schools through resume and interview support.

Program Supports

The Camden Teacher Pipeline provides students with stipends during the full time teaching year of $10,000. The Camden Teacher Pipeline also provides cooperating teachers a stipend of $1,000/semester

Student Teacher Testimonials

“CTP has helped me build my confidence in the classroom and supported me every step of the way. I’ve left every session with new ideas to implement, new strategies to support students, and strong feedback from videos and practice. The Camden Teacher Pipeline has provided me with a community where I am able to learn and grow with other educators that I greatly respect.”

Carley Kain
(2024-25 Cohort)

“The Camden Teacher Pipeline gave me the opportunity to reflect on my teaching and my teaching style to better myself which in turn supported me to better myself for my students. The Pipeline supported me emotionally as well especially in the beginning of the school year when I was struggling with connecting with my cooperating teacher. The Pipeline supported me to understand the diverse needs of the students that are in my classroom now and in my future classroom as well. I learned multiple different instructional strategies to ensure I am meeting the needs of each student.”

(2024-25 Cohort)

We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis. George’s story is the story of too many Black Americans – Ahmaud Arbery, Breona Taylor, Trayvon Martin, and so many more, named and unnamed by the media— brutally and senselessly killed.

This loss of Black life and our persistent failure to bring those responsible to account expose the most grotesque, painful truth about our nation: the enduring legacy of white supremacy.

We will not heal until things change.

Camden Education Fund stands in solidarity with the Black community.

We remain deeply committed to bringing resources to support our public schools and the extraordinary youth-serving organizations in Camden, as we believe these are the institutions with the greatest potential to show our children, daily, that their lives and dreams matter.

The reality is that all organizations – ours included – have so much more work to do. We will hold ourselves accountable to building an organization that advances equity, promotes understanding, and dismantles racist structures.
